Hints for Downloading Resources

editor | | Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Members are now able to download resources as PDFs directly from the Library site.

In the Library link, go to Expanded Catalogue 2 – for easy viewing. Where the word “Download” appears after any item, click on that word and you will have all the information at your fingertips.

As the downloads are in PDF format, it is necessary that you have a program like Adobe Reader installed.  You can do this by clicking on the following link.

Download Reader

There are a number of items you may be interested in. Look in International Biographies to find 25 of 29 items are downloadable and 19 of the 24 items in Famous Australians may be downloaded.

Once you have downloaded the items as PDFs, these are readable only and cannot be changed.

Converting PDFs back to Word documents

There is a method of changing PDF files back to documents. The file conversion website is

http://www.zamzar.com/

Once you open the site, the instructions are foolproof.  At the end of the process, open your email and the Word copy is there for you.

However this service is NOT available for Powerpoint documents. These documents may be viewed only as the downloaded Powerpoint.

To view PDF Powerpoint documents.

When you click on the downloaded Powerpoint version, you will see at the top left of the screen, a box with a number in it and on the left of that box there are arrows which will take you down (or up, as the case may be) to the next slide. And so the Powerpoint may be viewed as is through your computer and possibly data projector.

If you want the original documents – not in PDF format.

If this is your preferred option, you are advised to contact the Library Manager.

We hope you will enjoy this service, recently provided by the Library team.
